About Port Charles
More power. More ambition. More
than ever, daytime viewers are getting what they ask for, in ABC Daytime's
newest drama, "Port Charles," a spin-off of the award-winning drama series,
"General Hospital." "Port Charles" makes its debut with a two-hour,
primetime special on Sunday, June 1. Created by the production team from
"General Hospital," "Port Charles" promises the same exciting mixture of
intrigue, romance, suspense and adventure.
"Port Charles," set in the same town as "General Hospital," will combine the lives, loves and struggles of seven new medical interns, along with several popular characters from the original "General Hospital" series. Adjacent to General Hospital is Port Charles University's Medical School, which bolsters the hospital's teaching facilities. Here we meet the next generation of young doctors and nurses, where ideals clash with reality, where passion and ambition conflict with dreams, and where goals are continually being redefined in the face of life-and-death situations.
"Port Charles" will feature three of "General Hospital's" beloved characters: Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner), Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) and Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom). Kin Shriner reprises his role as the unpredictable Scott Baldwin, after a three-and-a-half year absence. Scott's reappearance, which is preceded by an upsetting chain of events, instantly causes friction between his past love, Lucy, and her current beau, Kevin. The intricate and often hilarious Lucy Coe is finally enjoying some hard-earned stability and happiness in her relationship with the troubled Kevin. Meanwhile, Kevin, a deep-thinking psychiatrist, has found the love of his life with the irreverent Lucy. Together they have triumphed over the demons of his past. However, unforeseen circumstances may pose a threat to their promising future.
Joining these seasoned characters
are the next generation of promising Port Charles citizens. Dr. Karen Wexler
Cates (Jennifer
Hammon) returns to town having departed
several years ago with husband Jagger just after learning that Scott Baldwin
was her
biological father. Karen has been
overcoming the trauma of her past while attending medical school, and decides
to accept the
internship at General Hospital.
She immediately runs into former childhood friend and fellow intern Dr.
Joe Scanlon (Michael Dietz). Joe and his big brother, Frank (Jay Pickett),
grew up as the eldest siblings in a poor Irish family in Port Charles.
It was Frank to whom Joe first confided his passion about becoming a doctor,
and Frank encouraged Joe to pursue his dream.Frank, whose charm has always
outshone his younger brother, now teaches high-school science and moonlights
as an emergency medical technician.
Dr. Julie Morris-Devlin (Lisa Ann Hadley) comes to the internship program hoping to prove herself on her own merit. She grew up in the overpowering shadow of her father, a nationally renowned surgeon; and Julie has spent her life craving his approval. She is determined to keep her own and her father's identity a secret to see if she can get by at General Hospital without his powerful influence over her life. She immediately catches the attention of Dr. Chris Ramsey (Nolan North), whose charm masks his determination to be the best surgeon in the country. Chris' father decreed that his son would never have to work for anything, and as a result, Chris became thoroughly spoiled. His smooth exterior allows him to be adored by General Hospital staffers, but his self-serving nature and lack of moral code cause others to loathe him.
Dr. Eve Lambert (Julie Pinson) is an intelligent and beautiful woman, whose father left her and her mother when she was two years old. Her driving ambition rules her existence until she meets her match in Port Charles. Dr. Matt Harmon (Mitch Longley), a wheelchair user following a skiing accident at age eighteen, has not given up on the idea that he will walk again someday. Matt has not fully accepted that his injury may well be permanent, and refuses to allow his physical disabilities to get in the way or to be an excuse for others to treat him any differently.
Dr. Jake Marshak (Rib Hillis) is a brooding man who never quite fit in during his undergraduate years. He had very few friends and struggled to find his place in the world. Just when things looked darkest, Jake met Danielle Ashley (Renee Allman), a beautiful, sweet actress whose search for her family may place her love in jeopardy. Danielle has recently uncovered secrets about her lineage that link her to Port Charles.
Dr. Ellen Burgess (Debbi Morgan)
is the resident in charge of this year's interns, and she is determined
to whip this group into
shape. Ellen is an excellent doctor
and demands that others also excel. Even small failures are unacceptable
to her, and she does not tolerate excuses. Authoritative and unsentimental,
Ellen is driven by secrets from her past to make her interns into the best
doctors they can be.
Wendy Riche, under whose tenure "General Hospital" has won the past three consecutive Daytime Emmy awards for Best Show, will also executive produce "Port Charles."
